This is a very common and effective noise control measure, mainly used to reduce the interference of noise generated during the operation of railways (including high-speed railways, conventional railways, subways and ground sections of light rails) to sensitive areas such as residential areas, schools and hospitals along the lines.
Railway metal noise barriers are usually not a single board but a systematic project, mainly composed of the following parts:
Sound insulation board (screen body) : Core component.
Materials: The most commonly used ones are galvanized steel plates and aluminum alloy plates, due to their strong durability and high strength. Color steel plates (galvanized sheets coated with colored plastic for aesthetic and anti-corrosion purposes) will also be used.
Structure: It is usually a sandwich panel structure, with thin metal plates on both sides and sound-absorbing materials (such as centrifugal glass wool, rock wool, mineral wool, etc.) filled in the middle. This structure can both insulate sound (block sound transmission) and absorb sound (reduce sound reflection).
H-shaped steel column: Supporting structure.
As the framework of the metal noise barrier, it is firmly installed on the concrete foundation beside the railway line.
There is a certain distance between the columns, and the screen body is fixed between the columns.
Foundation: It is usually a concrete foundation, which is used to ensure the stability of the columns and the safety of the entire barrier structure, and can resist wind loads and the wind pressure of the train.
Sealing components: such as rubber sealing strips, are used to seal the gaps between the screen body and the column, as well as between the screen bodies, to prevent noise from leaking through the gaps.
Top structure (optional) :
Upright type: The top is flat, the structure is simple and the cost is low.
Folded corner type/inverted L-shaped: The top bends towards the sound source (railway), which can more effectively reflect the sound upwards and further enhance the noise reduction effect.
Top sound absorber: An additional sound-absorbing unit is added at the top of the upright barrier to absorb the sound diffracted from the top.
